NYSUT leadership has come to recognize that, in addition to all of the work done on our behalf and behind the scenes in Albany, there is an important need to support and assist the grassroots actions of local teachers. Toward this end, NYSUT has organized an island-wide rally to "Reclaim the Joy of Teaching and Learning." The rally will be held on Friday, May 15, between 4 and 6PM. Members of BMUST are asked to wear red and gather at the Massapequa LIRR Station sometime before 4PM. If we are to successfully resist the Governor's plans to privatize public education; bring to an end the over-testing of our students and stop a flawed and untested Common Core, we all must be engaged. Many BMUST members have dedicated a great deal of time to fighting these reforms by writing letters, calling and meeting with legislators, joining local pickets and attending rallies.. These efforts are appreciated and have been vital to our fight. However, we have entered a new phase of this struggle and ALL OF US need to stand up for our students, our schools and our profession. So, we encourage all of our members to participate in the rally this Friday. Bring a sign, wear a red shirt, hold a banner, scream and yell. Help to welcome NYSUT to this grassroots struggle; help to make change happen; help to make a difference. BMUST Board of Trustees |
